The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcade Welcomed to Harlem in Style

Verlene Cheeseboro, President of the Church of Scientology of Harlem (far right) joins Queen Mother Parousia Jordan (center), one of the elders of Harlem, for the blessing of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcade tent.

With the blessing of Queen Mother Parousia Jordan, one of the elders of Harlem, and Brother Donny Muhammad, a local community activist, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Continental Cavalcade was welcomed to the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Plaza on 125th Street this weekend.

To celebrate its arrival, Reverend Cindy Rhodes sang a song she created for the occasion, titled “Something CAN Be Done About It,” based on the Volunteer Ministers motto.

In his speech, Brother Muhammad urged cooperation by all sectors of society to handle the problems of the community, and emphasized the importance of L. Ron Hubbard’s technology, which the Cavalcade is making broadly available, in accomplishing meaningful social change.

Throughout the afternoon, the crowd was entertained by local musicians and artists including the impressive percussion work of the Harlem Drummers and the first-class Hip Hop music of the Harlem Steppers. The crowd was also inspired by the gospel-music ballet performed by the Uptown Dance Academy and the music of jazz virtuoso Carlos Munhoz.

Thelma Ruffin Thomas, a professional African American storyteller, echoed the message of what the Cavalcade offers the community, when she performed her special “interactive storytelling” on the theme of effective study technology helping youth live up to their full potential.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcade will be at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Plaza until April 30th. For more information, contact the Church of Scientology of Harlem at Tel: (212) 828-1825 info@scientology-harlem.org or the Volunteer Ministers Coordinator at vm@volunteerministers.org

The Harlem Drummers welcomed the Cavalcade to 125th Street. The Cavalcade will be at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Plaza through the end of April, providing courses, lectures and workshops on L. Ron Hubbard's technology, and one-on-one help to local residents.
